<p>Pulitzer Prize-winning Novelist Michael Cunningham appearing in Savannah <br />
<br />
The Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home is thrilled to announce that Michael Cunningham (Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Hours, Specimen Days, Flesh and Blood, and A Home at the End of the World) will be giving a free reading and lecture at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, at Trinity United Methodist Church on Telfair Square in Savannah. Mr. Cunningham's appearance is the first annual installment in the The Ashley and Terry Ursrey Memorial Lecture Series. <br />
<br />
Like O'Connor, Cunningham earned an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. While best known as a novelist, Cunningham has also earned acclaim as a writer of short stories: "White Angel" was chosen for Best American Short Stories 1989, and "Mister Brother" appeared in the 2000 O. Henry collection.<br />
<br />
Two of Mr. Cunningham's novels -- The Hours and A Home at the End of the World -- have been turned into highly-acclaimed films. Mr. Cunningham also co-authored the screenplay for Evening, starring Meryl Streep and Vanessa Redgrave.<br />
<br />
After his talk on the evening of the 3rd, Mr. Cunningham will attend a brief reception and book-signing.<br />

The Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home in Savannah, Georgia has reopened! <br />
<br />
Through October, we will be open from 1-4 p.m. Fri-Sun; hours for the rest of the fall are still to be determined, although we will certainly continue to be open from 1-4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. In celebration of our reopening and restoration, we are planning a major party for the evening of Oct. 13. A copy of the invitation can be found at the bottom of this email. Please attend if you find yourself in Savannah.<br />

Also, on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the Jepson Center for the Arts in Savannah, we will be screening "Wise Blood." Discussion after the screening will be facilitated by O'Connor scholar Dr. Marshall Bruce Gentry and producer Stratton Leopold, who worked on the acclaimed John Huston prodution.<br />

Just a quick note to let our newsletter subscribers know that today -- March 25 -- would have been Flannery O'Connor's 82nd birthday.<br />
<br />
Renovation of the Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home here in Savannah hit a few delays, but work continues. Those who live nearby may have already seen the new stucco and staircase on the front facade of the house, but the interior renovations will not be finished for another month or two.<br />
<br />
We are planning a small gathering/celebration/fundraiser/belated birthday party for May. We will send information about that event as it becomes available.<br />
<br />
Our next full newsletter should be sent to you in a few weeks.<br />
<br />
Finally, we'd like to thank all of you who have signed up to receive periodic emails about the FOC Childhood Home Foundation. Special thanks to those of you from around the country who joined the mailing list after seeing the wonderful piece about O'Connor last month in the New York Times.<br />
